5:30 p.m. Dr. Manuel F. Medrano speaks about his work on the Los Del Valle Oral History Project and explores conjunto music, its connection to the Chinese sheng and the European accordion. Medrano is a Professor Emeritus in History at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and specializes in Mexican American history and culture. The Los del Valle Oral History Project includes autobiographical sketches and historical accounts through which the uniqueness of the Rio Grande Valley’s people, culture, and heritage is conveyed.
