Tours at MCB

MCB strives to bring the past to life—for adult and youth groups, church groups, community organizations, and families. Check out our collection of unique artifacts with a guided tour, or try hands-on activities such as throwing spears, creating a pinch pot, or using stone tools. School Program

Field trips are 1.5 hour programs that include a scavenger hunt and two hands-on activities. We offer a choice of activities to fit your class’s interests and needs. See your options below!

*Groups of less than 60 students can choose to have only one hands-on activity.


Where Texas History Began program

Field trip options for this program will engage your students with state history, from the tools & technologies of the earliest Texans, through life for the French colonists and Spanish settlers. Aligned with social studies TEKS. Scavenger hunts can cover the entire museum or a specific topic: French Explorers, Spanish Settlers, and Early Peoples.

Traveling Trunks

We are currently offering 3 traveling trunks for rent: Uncovering the Past (archaeology and early peoples related), Texas Industries, and Texas Symbols.

Each trunk is $5 for a one week rental. The trunks include lesson plans, artifacts and artifact replicas, and flashcards.

Add our pinch pot activity supplies to any trunk rental for an additional .50cents per participant! The supplies will be prepared and ready for pick-up with the trunk.

Group Policies

  • Advance reservations are required for education programs.
  • Large groups may be divided into smaller sections to make programs run smoothly.
  • Every ten students must have an adult chaperone (at least 18 years old), who is admitted free. Additional adults will pay regular group admission.

Guidelines

  • Students must be accompanied by adults at all times.
  • Food and drink can harm our artifacts; please don’t bring them inside. Lunches may be eaten outdoors on the college campus.

Make Birthdays Historic at MCB

The museum is currently booking themed birthday parties during regular museum hours. Guests can select either Early Explorers or Archaeology Madness as their theme. Party crafts and activities are geared for children ages 7 and up.

Birthday Party $200 fee includes:
25 guests including adults
1.5 hours in the museum
Tables, table coverings, chairs, cutlery, napkins, plates, and cups
Themed decorations
Invitations (only provided not mailed)
Set-up and clean-up
Cake
1 Craft (see below)
1 Activity (see below)
Refrigerator/freezer if needed

Early Explorers
Crafts: Make your own compass OR Make a boat using paper plates
Activities: Pin the boat on the Mississippi OR Build and test a fort

Archaeology Madness
Crafts: Artifact coloring sheet OR Pump drill
Activities: Mock dig OR Atlatls (ages 9 and up only)
